Can I get a job here?

All our employees are members of the Fountain House community. If you are a Fountain House member, yes, most likely you can work here for a six month long TE, or if you have some retail experience already, a year long SE. Let’s talk more with your social practitioner. If you are not a Fountain House member, but you have a qualifying mental illness and are over 18, you can join our community and then look for work with us. Please call 646-485-5203 or email jointheclub@fountainhouse.org. You will need to apply. Membership is free. Besides work and community, Fountain House can also help you find housing, complete a degree, or apply for benefits.

Can I sell my products here?

Probably not. We have taken great care to source environmentally friendly and socially responsible items, and part of our mission is to create work by making things here ourselves.

What is Fountain House?

Fountain House is a national mental health nonprofit fighting to improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people most impacted by mental illness. Fountain House operates a large clubhouse nearby on 47th street. A “clubhouse” is a community-based location designed to support the recovery of people living with serious mental illness (SMI). Each clubhouse provides a restorative environment for people whose lives have been severely disrupted because of their mental illness. The concept of a clubhouse — which was pioneered by Fountain House in the 1940s — starts with the idea that “community is therapy.” Fountain House and Body is part of the employment program at the local clubhouse and is run by its staff and members.

What is in your soap?

Our dish soap is made with only coconut oil and lye, our handmade bar soap is made with coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, and lye. We use clays, bamboo charcoal, herbs, or lab made micas for coloring, and essential oils or fragrance oils for the scent. We may use oatmeal or poppy seeds or coffee grounds too, each soap should have any additives listed individually. We do not use any animal products or detergents in our soap. (There is a detergent in our shampoo bars.)

Can I order wholesale? What are your wholesale prices?

Yes! You can order wholesale soaps, candles, or other items made to your own specifications, usually at about 40% off retail price, with a minimum of 24 items. Want a unique scent or color or label? We can make that happen.

Can you make custom-scented soaps or candles?

We’d love to! It’ll take about 6 weeks for soap and 4 weeks for candles. Adding custom labels may take a little longer and cost a little more.

Do you carry Coyuchi sheets and blankets?

No we do not.

How do the refills work?

Bring in your own container or buy one here. You may find donated clean containers here too. Find an employee to help you tare the container on the scale and write down the weight. Then fill it as much as you want and write the weight on the containers. We’ll have stickers and tags to write on, and you’ll be charged by the weight of the item.

Are you a non-profit?

No, we are an LLC, but we are owned by a non-profit.

Can you ship this to California so that I don’t have to pay sales tax?

Yes but you have to pay for the shipping.
